Since the mid-1990s, Solo has invested in research and development of the application of new materials to more sustainable single-use foodservice products. There is no consensus on what is the most “environmentally friendly” choice in single-use foodservice products and every choice has a trade-off. With the right information and options from which to choose, you can make single-use foodservice products part of an Eco-Forward® lifestyle.

Solo introduced the Bare® by Solo® product line in 2008 and today offers a broad selection of products that are made using recycled, recyclable, compostable or renewable materials. Bare by Solo product offerings are available for both consumers and foodservice operators and include plastic, paper and bio-based cups, plates, bowls and take-out containers designed for hot and cold applications.
In addition to new products, Solo is also actively involved in developing large-scale applications to make foodservice in public venues greener. These include stadiums and large event venues as well as summer festivals. Success in large venues requires partnership from the entire supply chain – from the manufacturer who provides the single-use products to the foodservice operator who prepares and sells the food and beverages to the waste hauler to venue management to the consumer on whom we rely to dispose of the products properly so they can be recycled. It’s a challenge but it can work. Solo’s partnership with The Chicago Cubs is a great example!
